POST 18: Water Canyon Recreation Area, Winnemucco, Nevada

Water Canyon Recreation Area

We found this really cool town just off the highway called Winnemucco, in  Nevada, then found this awesome BLM area just outside of the town called  Water Canyon Recreation Area.

This BLM Campground was located using Campendium.

Upon our arrival, we slowly drove along the road. We had read that we could easily turn around at the top. We wanted to check out all the different camping spots first which would let us choose the best one for us that was available.

Most of the sites were full right from the beginning. We kept going up and up and up searching for that perfect site. We did see a pull through one that looked inviting.

At the top were many cars all around this huge circular opening in the trees and people were having a party. Must have been a family gathering at the picnic tables. We made the turn around which was a little tricky with all the cars.

Heading back down, we crossed our fingers that no one had taken the one spot that we now really wanted lolol.

Returning back to our preferred site. Pulling into this semi-circular driveway we stopped. It was perfect. We had a semi circle of grass out front between us and the road. A decent field behind us for the dogs to wander in and guess what? We heard running water, a babbling brook. Couldn’t have been more ideal. The price was right, it was FREE!.

We had an added bonus on this stop.  There was plenty of sun left in the day. So Bill decided to setup the solar panels to trickle charge our batteries.

Gotta love BLM camping 🙂
