Post 32: Heading to Maplewood Acres RV Park
Maplewood Acres RV park – how we ended up there.
During our pleasant stay at Campers Corners, we decided we wanted to head towards Montreal, Quebec to visit with our middle son and his girlfriend. Also we wanted to take in some of the Canada 150 and Montreal 375 activities and events. Our hope was we would be able to stay at a campground for a month or so.
We knew it might be a difficult task to find a campground that had a site available for a month, but hey, if you don’t try you never know.
We first tried Lancaster Park Outdoor resort, there was a bit of confusion and we couldn’t get a definitive answer after a couple of days trying.
We were running out of time because we did not want to extend our stay at Campers Corners, it was time to move on. So we called a few other campgrounds and eventually phoned Maplewood Acres RV park and talked to Dave (who we later found out was one of the owners).
Dave said he would have to check, they have had so much rain in the area he wanted to make sure the site he had in mind was solid enough to get our trailer on. A couple of hours later he called back and success! We had a site for a month. Awesome Customer service.
Arriving at the Campground
We were excited to see Maplewood Acres RV park. The 640 klm drive to the park was uneventful, even with going through Toronto! (see our helpful hint on highway 407 toll road)
We arrived at the park and as we were driving down the park entrance there are a few signs that actually made us feel very welcomed. We were greeted by Cathy (turns out, Dave and Cathy are married). The check in was easy and Cathy and Dave directed us to our site.
What’s at Maplewood Acres RV Park?
Maplewood Acres RV park is an extremely family friendly campground. The weekdays are fairly quiet and even on the weekends, despite the campground being usually full, it is quiet as well.
Don’t let the quiet fool you though! Almost every Saturday night through out the season they have events planned:
- Mardi Gras / Pirates of the Carribean
- Garage sale
- Christmas in July (Santa comes and all the kids get presents) and the campers decorate their RV and campsite!
- Golf tournament
- Sock Hop
- Family Karaoke followed by an adult night time swim
This is just a sample of the events. Here is a link to their events.
Every saturday night they have a “half and half” (we know it as a 50/50 draw), the proceeds go into purchasing additional equipment for the playground.
They have lots of Amenities: Store, pool, GREAT kids’ play area with a giant pirate ship, dump station and pool tables are just a sampling of what is here.
After the first week, we enjoyed the campground so much, we asked if we could extend our stay to the end of the season.
All the near by seasonal campers welcomed us, feels like we have been here for years!
