Post 129: The Next Chapter in our Full Time RVing life!

Time to Move on?

We have been having a blast at Maplewoods Acres RV Resort , but a NEW opportunity came up. After many discussions between us, we felt that it was time to move on to the next chapter in our full time RVing life!

We have had so much fun at Maplewood Acres RV Resort, but in the back of our minds we missed the solitude of the desert. Dogs roaming freely, quiet, dark skies and lots of space!

How the opportunity arose!

Silver Lake, Ontario

It all started when Bill was browsing the internet. He stumbled upon an ad, advertising 3/4 to 1 acre of undeveloped land near Sharbot Lake Ontario, about 1 hour north of Kingston Ontario.

Bill contacted the owner of the land (for the sake of this article, let’s call the owner John Doe lol). John explained he owned 65 acres of land. He does not want to develop it but would rather have 20 or so campers that love nature and enjoy peace and quiet. The idea was, this was going to be a ‘green‘ campground, no utilities, no services, no staff. Just around 20 sites –  3/4 to 1 acre sites in size. There was an annual fee, guaranteed not to increase over time (from our perspective even if it does increase it is still very reasonable)! The lot assigned to us is ours to do what we wanted with (no permanent structures). We could leave or cut as many trees as we wanted. Responsible ATV use was permitted, fishing across the hwy on Silver Lake or down the road on Sharbot Lake. Canoeing, Kayaking and boating was also available. Kind of a win / win. We had a beautiful piece of land and he made a little money offsetting the mortgage on the land.

Meeting John in person!

John agreed to show us the land and give us a general idea of the lot that would be assigned to us. When we met, John actually showed us several spots we could choose from. We choose the one at the bottom of a slight hill because it almost guaranteed us no immediate neighbors on the west side of us.

The deal was, he would clear enough of the trees and brush so we could get the trailer/RV into the spot and turn around. After that, it was up to us what we wanted to clear.

Joy and Bill discussed the situation and we both felt is was what we wanted! From Bill’s perspective, he always wanted some land that he could shape into his dream. Bill has spent countless hours watching wilderness movies, youtube channels and this is a dream come true for him! From Joy’s perspective, it offers peace and quiet and will give her the opportunity to catch up on some reading and also help shape the land. We told John we would take it and would like to bring our RV up mid to end of Aug 2018.

So what does this mean?

So what does this mean? Will we be spending 365 days a year on the lot? No, absolutely not! The price being what is is, we can spend as much or as little time on the land as we choose.

Stay tuned, more to come on our plans in future blog posts!
